How it Ends
So Shall It Be

This is NOT straight up hardcore. How it Ends is a refreshing (if
such a word can be used in conjunction with something this powerful)
mix of hardcore ("End the Suffering"), black metal ("Savior"),
doom ("Dying Eyes") and even a little sludge ("Hardest
Lesson"). The first thing that will come to mind when you pop
this CD in is Hatebreed, but How it Ends plays with more focus and
polish than your typical hardcore band; with the music doing a lot
more than just providing a backdrop for the shrieking vocals. The
vocals are reminescent of the glory days of black metal (Bathory,
etc.) but the Pantera-style guitar riffs and the doom-laden drum beats
defy that classification as well. While certainly harder and faster
than anything you're going to find in the doom genre, the transitions
and bass lines bring it to mind.
The disc opens up with "Empty Nothing Forever", which plays
like some of Hatebreed's more recent offerings, but later descends
into Slayer-esque "Thou Shall Not". Basically, this a great
album that will appeal to a mix of the deepest and darkest tastes
in the metal scene today and is definitely worth a listen.
